Families and supporters of a hospice joined together for an annual summer fete to help raise more than £2,500 for charity.

St Luke’s Hospice, in Kenton Grange held its annual summer event on Saturday, with hundreds of people turning out to show their support.

The event included a fashion show with clothes available for purchase, a beat the goalie game organised by Barnet FC, a pop up St Luke’s shop, nail painting and stalls with a bottle tombola, teddy raffle.

Earlier in the day 26 pupils from St Dominic’s Sixth Form completed a sponsored walk from their college in at Mount Park Avenue, Harrow-on-the-Hill to the hospice, raising more than £1,000.

St Luke’s daycare patient Yvonne Lindsay visited the fete with her son Rowan.

She said, ‘I’ve had a wonderful time and I’m so grateful for all that St Luke’s has done for me.

“Thanks to their support and the wonderful care of my family, I can now get out and about a bit more, and I am really enjoying the day.”

The hospice's director of fundraising Pam Russell said: “I am extremely grateful to all the volunteers, supporters and staff who came together to make the day such a success.

“They struggled valiantly to get everything set-up in the pouring rain, and were rewarded when the sun came out at 11am, just when the fete started.”

Thirty people volunteered on the day including pupils from St Gregory's RC High School in Kenton, members of the Kenton Scout Hut and staff from Barclays bank.

The day raised a total of £2,900 for the hospice which cares for people in Harrow and Brent with serious progressive illnesses.

On Saturday June 14, supporters of the hospice will be abseiling 100ft from the top of St Alban's Church in North Harrow in the latest fundraising event.
