A motorist has been arrested after allegedly hitting a cyclist before crashing through the front of a hairdressers in Kingston.

Police believe an argument between a male cyclist and a female driver was the catalyst for the smash in Park Road on Saturday, June 7.

The accident, at about 6pm, left part of Park Salon destroyed, with the roof being held up by supports.

The salon was closed at the time of the accident.

The cyclist was taken to hospital with cuts and was discharged that same evening.

The motorist, a 30-year-old-woman, was arrested on suspicion of attempted GBH, and bailed until September.

A police spokesman said: "At this early stage, officers believe there had been a heated argument between the cyclist and the driver while both were stationary.

"During the course of the dispute, the cyclist kicked the car, an Audi Q7.

"The woman drove the car away and was in collision with the cyclist and then the shop.

"Officers from Kingston CID are investigating. Enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances."

Jon Fray, from the Kingston Cycling Campaign, said: "There needs to be respect between all road users, and people lashing out, from whichever direction, is not a good thing."
