Chessington remembers D-Day Landings
Chessington RBL president Joe Sharkey, standard bearer and chairman Arthur Fisher and former soldier Reg Croucher pay their respects
Members of the Chessington Royal British Legion were among millions of people commemorating the 70th anniversary of D-Day this week.
A small ceremony was held at the RBL war memorial in Church Lane yesterday, June 6, in memory of the 1944 Normandy landings, where thousands of Allied soldiers lost their lives in what proved to be a crucial turning point in the outcome of World War II.
Arthur Fisher, chairman of Chessington RBL, was at the service and said: "It was a nice day, the sun was shining, and it was a nice little turnout.
"We paid our respects to the brave men that fell and also to those who survived."
