Teen techpreneur Nick D'Aloisio who sold his news digest app to Yahoo for £18 million has won Apple's most prestigious award.

The 18-year-old King's College student received Apple's Design Award at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco on Monday.

He said: "To be recognised a second time by Apple, a company that has inspired millions of developers around the world to understand that simplicity can create enduring beauty, is something we are incredibly proud of."

The Wimbledon whizz-kid has balanced his school work with conferences in London and LA since joining Yahoo to build the Yahoo News Digest app last year.

Launched in February, the UK edition of Yahoo News Digest delivers twice-daily digests of the top ten news stories identified by editors and algorithms.

Mr D'Aloisio, currently taking his A-Levels at King's College School in Wimbledon, was in San Francisco for the awards ceremony.

Just after the event he tweeted: "Proud to announce we just won the 2014 Apple Design award for Yahoo News Digest here at WWDC!!! :)"
