Council staff will be trained in dealing with people who suffer from dementia under a new initiative by the local authority.
Enfield Council is supporting the Dementia Friends Campaign, launched by Public Health England and the Alzheimer’s Society, to ensure staff can spot the warning signs of dementia when people contact the council.
All frontline customer services staff will complete an interactive course to help them identify and deal with people with dementia so they can provide them with a better service.
Enfield Council’s deputy leader, Councillor Achilleas Georgiou, said: “We have an ageing population in Enfield and as the people who live in our borough get older, more and more will develop dementia.
“We are training our front line customer services staff on what dementia is, how it can affect people and the best way to communicate with those who have it, so we can ensure we offer the best possible service to meet their requirements.”
