Reigate Fort will be the setting for this year's open-air production from the Gatton Community Theatre later this month.

The group, which specialises in staging large-scale theatre events and operates an open-door policy with anyone regardless of age, experience or ability who would like to be involved, able to take part, with no formal auditions, is taking to the historic site to present Tales From The Surrey Hills.

The production, telling stories including of highwaymen, smugglers, pilots, poets, soldiers and lovers, has been written by Elizabeth Godber and is suitable for all ages.

With a cast of 45 young people and adults, the show, directed by Lixi Chivas, is supported by a production and backstage team of around 30 members drawn from the local community.

The show is a partnership production with the National Trust, which owns Reigate Fort, and Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as part of Front Line Surrey, a project helping to raise awareness of the hidden history of Reigate Fort and its immediate surrounding area.

The project is supported by The National Lottery working through the Heritage Lottery Fund, and involves lots of different activities aimed at engaging the local community in the heritage site.

Tales From The Surrey Hills will be performed at Reigate Fort on June 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 3pm.
