Ellen Fox was born in 1914, when King George V was on the throne, in Deptford and was one of 17 children brought up solely by her father after their mum passed away.

She grew up to take a job cracking nuts in New Cross. It was at this time that she met husband, Leslie Fox, marrying in 1937 at St Nicholas Church.

And Mrs Fox continued to pursue her love of dancing, performing at the New Cross Empire in shows like The Chorus Line.

She went on to have three daughters, six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren - many of whom packed into Charlton's Time Court Residential Care Home, Woodland Terrace, to see in the big day with Mrs Fox and staff from Sanctuary Care.

The centenarian said: "When I look back on my life I certainly see being married to a wonderful man as the most significant thing – and having a large and loving family."
