Princess Alice Hospice volunteers will be treated to a party as a thank you for the work they do.

The party will be thrown for the hospice’s 400 volunteers as part of Volunteers Week, which runs from June 1 to June 7.

Among those attending the party will be Carole Speake from Claygate, who has made cups of tea on the hospice wards for the past 25 years.

She said: “The years have just flown by, I really enjoy doing it. I started volunteering when my daughter was young and now I’m a grandmother. I’m a team leader and I’m very lucky to have a good team.”

Nicki Shaw, chief executive of Princess Alice Hospice, said the volunteers were vital to providing a smooth running service and hospice would not work without them.
