Labour is celebrating an excellent set of European election results in the capital.
The party has doubled the number of MEPs in London to four while the Lib Dems have been wiped out.
The results came in this morning at 3am after a marathon wait on the count in Tower Hamlets.
Lib Dem Sarah Ludford lost her seat but refused to blame Nick Clegg’s leadership.
She said: “I think there is only a minority – a couple of hundred people who have signed this petition [calling for Clegg to stand down].
“Of course it wasn't Nick Clegg's fault – the whole party has to take whatever responsibility it has to take."
The Conservatives came second in London with 22 per cent, followed by UKIP’s 17 per cent and the Greens on nine per cent and the Lib Dems seven.
Labour attracted 37 per cent of the capital’s electorate beating the Tories by a massive 310,000 votes and pushing them into third place nationally for the first time in their history.
