A library in Ewell reopened today following a six-week refurbishment.

Ewell Court Library in Lakehurst Road held an activity day as children's author and illustrator Cathy Brett cut the ribbon on the new-look facility.

Children enjoyed facepainting and a treasure trail while wine and nibbles was served to the adults.

Ms Brett also held a live drawing session, showing visitors how to create their own literary figures.

Jackie Forrest, a member of the library's steering committee, said: "We've had a new carpet fitted, new chairs and new self service machines.

"The whole library looks lovely and really welcoming.

"It's being run by volunteers with the help of Surrey Library Services.

"It's a new venture for us but we've got a lovely community spirit here and there are lots of people who want to support Ewell Court Library.

"We're having a fantastic day and there are a lot of people who are really pleased to see the library open again."
