A Bexley organisation is offering free workshops and activities to celebrate volunteering next month.

Trust Thamesmead is running events to tie in with National Volunteers’ Week (between June 1 and 7).

One session will focus on what people can get out of offering their time and skills and the second workshop is providing support for community groups.

Trust Thamesmead’s community development officer for volunteering Sarah Feleppa said: "Volunteering is a fantastic way to learn something new, meet new people and give something back to your community.

"There are lots of fantastic opportunities available to people in Thamesmead – why not pop along to find out more."

There will also be an opportunity to get your hands dirty and clean up the community.

The Capital Clean-up programme will happen on June 6 between 10am and 1pm.

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "Bringing people together to roll up their sleeves and tackle litter and mess in their communities can make the world of difference, giving areas a mini facelift and making them more enjoyable for locals and visitors alike.

"I hope as many people as possible get involved in Capital Clean Up and help boost community pride by keeping our great city tidy and litter free."
