In a new feature the Guardian's chief photographer Ken Mears picks his favourite pictures of the week.

Here is this week's selection. Click on the links to read the original full stories.

Picture one: This picture shows the devastation caused by the collapse of an extension being built on the side of a house in Woodford Green. The low angle shot emphasises the degree of destruction brought upon a quiet suburban street.

Picture two: This shot was taken at a fashion show in Loughton High Street. It is made by the expressions on the faces of the children and the people looking out from behind the curtain.

Picture three: This picture shows the visit of the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby to St Gabriel's church in Aldersbrook to mark its 100th anniversary. A moment of religious order is caught in the movement of the Archbishop’s hand and a fine backdrop of candles and curtains

Picture four: This is a well-composed shot of a tiny working traction engine being dwarfed by a much larger model at the heritage and steam fair at the Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey

Picture five: This well-caught shot shows Laura Slattery jumping for joy. Laura, who has already run the London Marathon this year, aims to raise £2,000 from a forthcoming fun day.
