Baby murder accused appears at Old Bailey
A 38-year-old woman has appeared in court accused of murdering a baby after its legs were found in a park.
Police charged Elita Amantova, 38, of no fixed abode, with murder on Wednesday, May 14.
A large area of the park was cordoned off
She appeared at the Old Bailey on Friday May 16 and will return to court on July 30 when she is expected to enter her plea.
On September 10, 2012, baby remains were discovered by a council worker on Tooting Bec Common in Doctor Johnson Avenue.
A post-mortem gave the age of the child as less than two weeks, but was unable to determine gender or cause of death.
Police using sniffer dogs scoured the area for a further five days but no more remains were discovered.
Last year, on March 30, a dog walker unearthed human placenta buried inside an ice cream carton just a short distance away on Tooting Bec Common near the athletics track.
Again police searches found no other human remains.
