A sea of pink descended on Hampton Court Palace over the weekend when more than 1,000 walkers ploughed through the grounds to raise £250,000 for breast cancer.

Record-breaking numbers of walkers took part in the first Hampton Court Palace Pink Ribbonwalk on Saturday, May 17, to mark the 10th anniversary year for the events.

Walkers took part in the 10 or 20 mile route around the palace grounds, along the banks of the River Thames and through Royal Parks, walking together to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

The charity hopes to raise more than £250,000 from the walk which means it can to continue to provide vital support and information to people affected by breast cancer.

Loose Women star and charity supporter Andrea McLean, who took part in the walk, said: “I’ve done the Pink Ribbonwalk a number of times and it’s been a joy to be here today in the 10th anniversary year with hundreds of other walkers.

“Hampton Court has been lovely to walk around and it has been fantastic chatting to everyone on the way round about what Breast Cancer Care means to them.”

Actress Kelly Adams, who took part in her first Pink Ribbonwalk, said: “It’s been really exciting to be part of the Pink Ribbonwalk here today, and in such a beautiful setting.

“I have really enjoyed being around all the other walkers, chatting to them and cheering everyone on.

“I know that many people are affected by breast cancer, and how important the support that Breast Cancer Care offers is.”

All walkers were given a limited edition anniversary Pink Ribbonwalk T-shirt designed by fashion guru Lulu Guinness.

Lucy Johnston, walks manager at Breast Cancer Care, thanked everyone who took part in the walk in support of the charity.

She said: “With one person diagnosed with breast cancer every ten minutes, there has never been such an urgent need for our services.

“The fantastic efforts of everyone here today will help us provide vital support so everyone affected has someone to turn to.”
