More than 30 people took part in a memorial walk organised by a bereaved couple to support families affected by sudden infant death.

Supporters of the national charity The Lullaby Trust took part in the walk from Forty Hall to Hilly Fields path, in Forty Hall Country Park.

The Enfield Mile in Memorial walk was one of more than 100 taking place around the country and was organised by Nicola Bird and her partner Nick Churcher.

In September 2011 the couple lost their son Edward to sudden infant death when he was just four weeks and five days old.

Ms Bird said: "After we lost Edward The Lullaby Trust gave us a huge amount of support and really helped us through an awful time.

"We have been fundraising for the trust for a while and wanted to take part in a Mile in Memorial walk but there wasn't one nearby, so we decided to organise our own.

"We want to raise money for the charity but also spread awareness and let people know that if something terrible does happen there is support out there and they can get help."

In 2012 the family tragically lost their second child Emily.

However soon after Ms Bird fell pregnant again but found the time stressful after her previous experiences.

The Lullaby Trust played a huge part in supporting the couple as part its CONI (care of next infant) scheme, which provides support for bereaved parents when having another child.

The mum of five said: "It was such a comfort and it gave us a lot of security to know the trust were there to give us support."

According to the charity every week five babies die unexpectedly in the UK and The Lullaby Trust aim to halve this number by 2020.

The walk ended with a balloon release in Hilly Fields, and the event raised £400 for the charity and the couple hope it will become an annual event.
