A woman died when the car she was driving collided with a tree in the early hours of yesterday in Lingfield.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was driving a white Ford Fiesta in Godstone Road when police said it is believed the car left the road at about 3.40am and collided with the tree.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Surrey Police spokeswoman said the woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

She has not yet been named by police.

The spokeswoman said: “An investigation has commenced to establish the cause of the collision and to ascertain the circumstances surrounding it.”

She said: “Next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with the woman's family and friends at this difficult time.”
