Jason Donovan speaks ahead of crowd-pleasing Hampton Court Palace concert
From the West End to concert venues around the world, Jason Donovan is no stranger to getting up on stage and delighting the crowds.
The Australian pop star, whose career in music has spanned 25 years, will now turn his attention to Hampton Court Palace as he performs on stage alongside Rick Astley.
The pair will perform two different sets on one night of this year’s Hampton Court Palace Festival, and both sets will be complete with their own back catalogues.
Despite performing as separate artists, Donovan says they are not hugely different and are both looking forward to taking to the stage at the historic palace.
He says: “We have very similar songs but he is more of a soul singer than I am. I’m much more of a pop singer.
“I’m looking forward to giving the audience what they want to hear. Music has a wonderful ability to transport us back to a place and a time we love.”
Donovan has promised a set filled with all the hits, including UK number ones Too Many Broken Hearts, Sealed with a Kiss and Any Dream Will Do, along with firm crowd pleaser, Especially For You.
Despite being a duet with pop superstar Kylie Minogue, who was a mentor on BBC’s The Voice this year, Donovan will tackle the song alone.
Donovan says: “Unfortunately Kylie won’t be with me on the night, but I’m sure the audience will help me and sing-along.”
Although the pop princess will not be joining him, his family, including children aged 14, 13 and three, may come along, but Donovan says they are not keen on his dancing.
So while he may have rein in the dancing, Donovan promises to bring along his guitar and perform a few songs with his prized instrument.
Used to a sunny climate Down Under, the British weather is at the forefront of Donovan’s mind.
He says: “The weather in this country is never predictable, so let’s hope it is as good as it can be.”
