A bin lorry has been stranded after getting stuck in a sink hole.

The dust cart got caught in a pot hole in Camden Road near Sutton town centre at about 10am.

It is understood the road underneath it gave way as the lorry passed over.

Driver Trevor Thorn said: "The road just went underneath us - it's hard to describe.

"I just heard this crack, looked around and saw this big hole."

The road has been partially closed while the lorry is being recovered.

This is Camden Road, not Robin Hood Lane. The area where the lorry got stuck had been cordoned off last week presumably for repairs... or not as it would seem!

Does the Guardian not check the pictures before putting out the story? I and others can clearly see that the lorry was being driven on the pavement when it sank. So this is clearly driver error, and stupidity. Picking up rubbish and rubbish driving.

If you think you can get around Sutton's streets in a dustcart without driving onto the pavement, you are obviously more stupid than the driver

Uh huh, clearly the drivers fault..never mind the gaping hole underneath the road that clearly gave way!

And as Dave said,if you think you could get a dustcart round these streets, battling with some residents idea of clever parking and such, without occasionally creeping onto pavements just a little, you should come give it a try

Is it a sink hole or a pot hole? There is a difference you know. And I can see no reason why the vehicle is on the pavement here, almost up the tree......

Have you watched the vid? Sinkhole pothole? You decide.
You can see no reason from that pic - investigation concluded, move over Sherlock, guilty as charged!!
