An Enfield man arrested over allegations of electoral fraud has been bailed.
The 33-year-old was arrested yesterday after police received allegations of false declarations on nomination papers for the council election, which will take place on Thursday, May 22.
The man was taken into custody along with a 38-year-old man accused of the same offence in Tower Hamlets, London.
The two allegations are not linked and both men have been bailed to a date in late June, pending further investigations.
An Enfield Council spokesman said: “We are aware of the ongoing investigation into electoral irregularities and will cooperate fully with the police in any way we can. As the investigation is ongoing we cannot comment further at this stage.”
