Thousands lined Bushy Park’s famous Chestnut Avenue for its most action-packed day of the calendar.

The annual Chestnut Sunday Parade was held at the royal park on Sunday, May 11, with the procession setting off from Teddington Gate at 12.30pm.

Spectators young and old marvelled as historic military vehicles and vintage motors made their way past on the relatively mild afternoon.

Marching bands and classic motorcycles added to the festivities, with children able to enjoy a traditional fairground carousel as well as exploring other stalls.

Among the attractions was the Horse Rangers Association, which provided a skilful display of dancing nags.

The new musical ride, shown in Bushy Park for the first time, was choreographed to celebrate the Horse Rangers children’s charity’s 60th anniversary.

Theresa Barrett, from Claygate, led ride and said: “It is such an achievement for Horse Rangers to get to 60 years and it’s a privilege to be part of the celebrations.”

Alistair Blamire, the organisation’s equitation officer, was the mastermind behind creating the new horse-dance routine.

The afternoon also saw live music from 50s and 60s bands, historical re-enactment groups as well as military re-enactments.

People were given the chance to learn more about Bushy Park’s wildlife and history and explore further in-depth the topic of birds and owls.
