The diggers have rolled in to start work on a second all-weather astro-turf pitch at Reigate Grammar School’s (RGS) Hartswood sports ground.

The development at Hartswood is part of an on-going investment in sport facilities and coaching that has already seen record hockey, netball and rugby wins achieved by students during the 2013 to 2014 season.

In addition to the extra astro-turf pitch, improvement works will include a hospitality pavilion, spectator viewing gallery and warm-up area at the 32-acre sports ground. The project is set for completion this September.

The extra pitch will enable improved training and coaching, in addition to enabling the school to host regional hockey training and events. A RGS spokesman said: “A second all-weather pitch will bring a host of benefits, including increased space for training, coaching and fixtures.

“The improved facilities will also enable RGS to increase access for the local community, including an extension to outreach hockey training for local junior schools, following the success of an initial programme completed by Reigate Priory Junior School during the winter of 2013 to 2014.”
