THE world premiere of a modernised West Side Story is running for a week at The Questors, Mattock Lane, Ealing.
The new musical, West 5 Story, is set in Ealing and tells the tale of an older couple who meet through a local ballroom dancing club.
Cast member Lucy Aley-Parker said: “It's very exciting to be involved in a first production and we are all also mastering a few 'Strictly' moves required by the plot!”
Put to music by Denis King and written by Ealing resident Richard Harris, the Stepping Out duo collaborated once again to produce West 5 Story.
Mr King said: “It’s a warm, nice, fun story and, hopefully, the music will echo that mood.”
Mr Harris owns a small piece of The Questors after he bought a brick for two and a half pence when everybody was asked to subscribe to the building of the new theatre in 1929.
“I do own part of this theatre, so this is payback time,” said Mr Harris. “I have been looking for my brick – it’s around here somewhere!”
West 5 Story runs to May 17, with evening performances at 7.45pm on May 13-17 and a matinee performance on May 11 at 2.30pm.
