A YOUNG Ealing comedienne is hoping to shake up the industry as she tries to raise funds for an online comedy series.

Charlotte Cooper-Garcha, 21, is attempting to collect £3,000 on the Kickstarter start-up website for her comedy series, Tour Girls.

A draft video of Cooper-Garcha’s mockumentary web series has had over 750 views on YouTube.

“I am trying to change the comedy scene for women in this country. I am making a comedy that isn't about looks or glamour, just about great personalities, tour guiding and London,” she said.

Cooper-Garcha is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and will perform in the play she wrote, 4am In the Middle of the Night, at the Camden People’s Theatre in July.

But the comedienne, who has been a London tour guide for two years, is now raising money for Tour Girls, which follows the bizarre events and underwhelming lives of three tour guides.

“I want there to be more comedies on British TV where all the girls are real girls and women, and the comedy isn't about weight or image, just about a situation i.e. a job,” she said.

Her Kickstarter deadline runs out on Wednesday, May 21 and, with only £355 raised so far, there’s still a long way to go.

The money will be spent on the hire of an open-top bus, approx £600 for the day, and on one location.

The cast and crew have agreed to donate their services for free, but money is required for catering and for an editor to put everything together.

A unique feature of Kickstarter is that those who donate receive benefits from the project.

A £5 donation would earn a name in the credits and an invitation to the show’s launch party, while a £1,000 pledge would see a person thanked with an executivepProducer name in the credits, DVDs of all the episodes, a film still postcard, weekly updates, the opportunity to be an extra as well as an invitation to the launch party.

Donations can be made through the Tour Girls Kickstarter page.
