Roman romp at Rose Theatre as Horrible Histories hits Kingston
The Ruthless Romans are heading to the Rose Theatre this month to give a gloriously gory account of life during the Roman Empire.
The award-winning Horrible Histories books by Terry Deary will take to the Kingston stage next weekend, offering an opportunity for families to explore the world of evil empires and gruesome gladiators.
Adapted for the stage by the Rose Theatre’s director of learning and participation, Ciaran McConville, the Ruthless Romans will take families on an entertaining journey through time to witness Julius Caesar’s relentless reign, the battles of Queen Boudica and the fearless Spartacus against the Republic.
The show is being brought to Kingston by the Birmingham Stage Company, which has brought family favourites including The Jungle Book and Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach to theatres across the UK.
McConville says: “It was great fun creating this Roman romp with the Birmingham Stage Company.
“Obviously it’s great they’re bringing it to the Rose, it’s such a fun show and it means I can laugh at all my amazing jokes again!”
Ruthless Romans in action
Ruthless Romans is suitable for all the family, and everyone is invited to get involved.
Children are encouraged to dress up as gladiators with a special prize for the ‘Best Dressed Roman’ presented by the cast after the show.
Each performance will be followed by a Q&A session so youngsters will be able to ask any questions they have about the Roman era.
There will also be a chance to have your photo taken with the cast in full costume.
