A police sergeant is preparing to motorbike more than 1,500 miles in 36 hours to raise £50,000 for a hospital.

The aptly named Stephen Miles, a sergeant in Richmond, will travel the distance on his BMW motorcycle and visit the four corners of the UK.

The 50-year-old from Portchester wants to raise money for Queen Alexandra Hospital, where his wife works.

The much-needed funds will enable the hospital to buy a new heart monitor.

He said: “I have visited my wife at work and have seen firsthand how important these monitors are in helping to save lives.”

He will start the ride on June 21 and visit the four corners of the UK – Land’s End, St Davids, John O’Groats and Lowestoft – in under 36 hours.

He said: “This is not an easy challenge and it was only achieved in 1998 for the first time.

“There are less than 50 people in the world to have completed this challenge.”
