Thousands of elderly people in danger of becoming isolated could be affected after a prevention project was axed.

An Age UK team dedicated to identifying vulnerable adults in Waltham Forest and ensuring they get the right help has had its funding cut.

As of the end of this month, the service, which is run by a team of three, will cease to exist.

The project, which costs £50,000 annually, has been helping the elderly for 12 years through funding from the Waltham Forest Council and the NHS.

Age UK in Waltham Forest confirmed today that funding has not been allocated from the Clinical Commissioning Group which took over from the PCT and all involved staff have been made redundant.
