Dozens of energy company employees are expected to go on strike in Bexleyheath again today.

Workers at EDF Energy in the Broadway will be manning picket lines in a dispute over pay with their employers, one of the UK’s so-called Big Six energy suppliers.

Members of the Unite union at EDF took a day of strike action on Tuesday and are ready to do so again today over what they say is the company’s failure to honour a 2012 pay agreement.

Unite says the dispute is causing delays in fixing and installing meters for customers, while those allegedly fiddling and stealing electricity are going unpunished.

Unite regional officer Kasab Onay said: “More industrial action is on the cards unless the management of this highly profitable company engage in constructive talks.

“Workers are taking action because EDF is refusing to honour an agreement signed in 2012 and to make matters even worse the company is offering a pay deal for 2013 which does not even keep up with the rising costs of living.

“We urge EDF to return to the negotiating table, honour its agreements and reach a fair deal for workers who deserve to have their contribution to the success of the business recognised.”
