A food bank is hosting a dinner party to celebrate its one year anniversary.

The Sufra Food Bank, which covers the north west London area, has helped provide emergency food aid to 3,483 people since it opened 12 months ago.

Managers of the charity are hosting 120 members of Brent Council and other dignitaries for a dinner at Chalkhill Community Centre in Wembley Park on Thursday night.

Mohammed Mamdani, interim director of Sufra NW London, says the food poverty in the region is linked to the extortionate cost of housing across the capital.

He said: “Countless families reside in temporary accommodation, and many more will be forced to move outside of the borough, leaving behind employment opportunities, breaking social and family contacts and disrupting the education of children and young people.”
