The World’s most notorious drugs smuggler will bring his wild tales and good humour to south east London.

Ahead of the Crystal Palace Overground Festival from June 26 to 29, a pre-festival fundraiser featuring Howard Marks will be held at Kingswood House in Dulwich on May 29.

The good-natured Welsh ex-con, whose life was made into a film starring Rhys Ifans called Mr Nice, will bring his spoken word show Scholar, Smuggler, Prisoner, Scribe.

The show looks back at four action-packed and extraordinary phases of his life with trademark honesty and humour, from his time as an academic to becoming a drugs trafficker, incarceration in a tough US jail and his current career as an author.

Crystal Palace Overground Festival chairman Noreen Meehan said: “Howard is truly a phenomenon of our times, a man who has surfed and survived many trials and tribulations, using his trademark humour.

“We hope that our faithful festival revellers will come and enjoy his many tales followed by DJs and a bar afterwards."

Tickets cost £12.50 at ticketline.co.uk/howard-marks

Saw him at a festival a couple of years ago. He was boring as fook. Just kept going on about how he bought large amounts of the best drugs into the country again and again.

He doesnt even do his signature "bong on stage" act anymore since he says he needs the money from these appearances and it prevents rebookings.

What he did shouldnt even be a crime. He caused a lot less harm than all major tobacco and alcohol manufactures / importers, so the whole story is boring. We will look back in 20 years and ask why we wasted money locking this bloke up.

Your words not mine !!

As it happens I agree with what you are basically saying though. The sooner MaryJane is legalised taking the profit away from the criminal element the better. There's bigger fish to fry than people smoking a weed that grows almost anywhere.

PS, just for the record I don't smoke baccy or MJ, never ever have.
