A plans to knock down historic stables and build detached houses has provoked dismay among equestrians in Epsom.
Racehorses belonging to a former Prince of Wales were trained at Priam Lodge, in Burgh Heath Road in the late 19th century.
Now a developer wants to build four detached houses at the site to replace a house and a complex of buildings used for stabling plus a demolition contractor’s yard.
Caroline Baldock, who has previously fought to save training yard Downs House and Durdans Stables, has urged people to oppose the plans.
Ms Baldock said: "I am appalled. We can't lose Priam Lodge. They [developers] will take them all out one by one until they have denuded the racing industry of suitable stables."
A horsewoman who previously ran livery stables at Priam Lodge had her tenancy terminated with effect from February 10.

A report by estate agents on the equestrian potential of the current buildings has been submitted with the planning application to Epsom Council. It said: "Realistically, there is very little or no chance of Priam Lodge ever returning to its use as a racehorse training stables."
The developer is variously named as Priam Developments Ltd and Priam Estates Ltd in the planning documents.
