I HAVE just read a local election leaflet from UKIP, attacking the cuts to jobs and services in Bolton.

Nothing wrong with that, but when you scrutinise their national policies, or lack of, carefully, you will find that they are in favour of more cuts to reduce the so called deficit.

It seems the local party is out of sync with national policy. They also talk about reducing council tax, so it seems their sums do not add up.

The fact is the only party standing in the forthcoming election, totally opposing austerity and cuts, is the Green Party.

Not only do we say what we are against, we also say what we are in favour of. That is stopping bankers’ massive bonuses, breaking up the banks and creating community and mutual banks, so that they never again hold the country to ransom, and behave in a more responsible way.

We also say that multinational companies and super-rich individuals should pay their fair share in tax. They should not be allowed to avoid and evade paying and the loopholes and tax havens, should be closed.

We also call for a Robin Hood tax, a small 0.05pc tax on any large international transactions. All these measures would bring in up to £150 billion a year into the country’s coffers.
