Coppers are used to running after criminals but officers took on more of a challenge when they embarked on a 60 mile fundraising run.

As part of their 90th anniversary celebrations, the members of the Metropolitan Police Rugby Club are running from New Scotland Yard to Brighton Pier, and stopped off at Sutton on the way.

And cycling alongside them today is keen cyclist and rugby enthusiast Sutton borough commander Detective Chief Superintendent Guy Ferguson.

During their run they also stopped off The Children’s Trust in Tadworth as all the money raised is going to the brain injury charity.

The Children's Trust was adopted as the Met's Rugby Club charity after one of its players suffered a brain injury in a tackle and underwent surgery.

He has now recovered, is playing rugby again and is one of today's event runners.
