An axe-wielding robber smashed a cabinet and grabbed two Rolex watches worth £12,000 from a pawnbrokers in Epsom yesterday.

The shop owner is now offering a £2,000 reward for the return of the watches - a gold Rolex worth £10,000 and a ladies’ Rolex worth £2,000 - taken in the smash and grab at Johnny Cash Pawnbrokers in Epsom High Street yesterday at about 3.40pm.

John Freeze said the man ran in with an axe, smashed the glass, grabbed the watches and made a getaway with an accomplice on a white motorbike.

Mr Freeze said: "We lend money to so many people who are struggling and finding it hard. I was a bit disgusted to find we help the community and someone robs me.

"We are shaken and upset and feel violated.

"He runs in, you hear a smash and by the time you get to the door he’s gone. I will pay a £2,000 reward for the return of the watches."

He said the robber wore a black crash helmet with skulls on it, grey tracksuit bottoms with blue stripes and a dark Nike hoodie with a zip.

Police described the man as slim with dark socks, Nike black and white trainers with a red or pink heel and black gloves with grey or white fingertips.

After the six-second raid, he jumped on the back of a motorbike waiting outside the Princess Alice Charity Shop, in Church Road, and fled towards Epsom Downs.

The 18 carat gold Rolex, with a diamond face, model number 118238 and serial number K4415(12), was the star lot in an auction to be held on June 10.

The lady's Oyster Rolex in stainless steel had a pink face and model number 76080.

Detective Constable Simon Evans said: "This incident last just a matter of seconds, but members of the public may be able to assist with information about the motorbike waiting outside, where it was beforehand and where it went to afterwards.

"It may be that you might have seen people acting suspiciously around the shop in the days, or weeks before this incident - if so then please get in touch."

Back in 2011 Mr Freeze's gold shop in the high street was robbed.

Men jumped over the counter of the store and grabbed several thousand pounds from the till before running off.

Since then the shop has upped its security measures.

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting the reference number 45140033729.
