Police have arrested a man after a woman was stabbed with a pair of scissors in Sidcup on Thursday.

The 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of a 24-year-old woman stabbed in Cleve Road at around 11.30pm.

He was today taken into custody at a south London police station where he remains at this time.

The stabbed woman remains in a critical but stable condition.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who may have any further information about the incident or who may have seen a male running from the Cleve Road area.

The victim had been at home with her partner when the suspect entered the property and attacked the victim with a pair of scissors.

The suspect also attacked the victim's partner inflicting stab wounds on him before fleeing from the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes from Bexley Borough, who is leading the investigation said: "This is an appalling crime against an innocent young lady and her partner.

"I would like to reassure the community of Bexley that attacks of this nature are extremely rare.

"The safety of the residents of Bexley Borough is and always will be our number one policing priority. Protecting the public is our total commitment.
