Five runners who completed the London marathon for the Princess Alice Hospice raised more than £9,000.

Each of the runners who took part in the event on Sunday, April 13, had their own reasons for choosing to support the Esher hospice, with Oliver Morgan, 28, of Freelands Road, Cobham, running in memory of a friend who received care there.

Mr Morgan, who completed the marathon in three hours and nine minutes, said: “I wanted to make a contribution to support the many, many other people who need Princess Alice Hospice so that they can experience the same level of care that our friend received; whether that be at the hospice or in their own homes.”

James Oliver, 20, of Meadway, Esher and his mother, Debra, 48, raised a total of £3,000 for the hospital, running the 26.2 miles in four hours and 10 minute and four hours and 30 minutes respectively.

Molly Savill, 18, of Grove Way, Esher, followed in her mother’s footsteps to complete the marathon, making it across the finish line in three hours and 36 minutes.

She said: “My mum has run three marathons for Princess Alice Hospice and I know how good the work that they do is as they have looked after some of my friends’ family members.”

Dr Ruth Chapman Tymens, 46, also from Esher, raised £2,000 in memory of her sister-in-law, completing the distance in five hours and nine minutes.
