Reigate's Priory Park will play host to attractions including a portable bike track, giant inflatable slide and more than 30 sports in the return of an annual celebration on Sunday, May 4.
For the Reigate and Banstead Festival of Sport 2014, organised jointly by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and Reigate and Banstead Sports Council, will be mounted from 10.30am to 3pm.
Offering fun for all the family, the festival, showcasing the many sports the borough has to offer, will be running alongside the popular YMCA-organised YRUN 14.
The line-up of sports will include cycling, tennis, rugby, hockey, archery and basketball, and visitors of all ages and abilities will have the chance to have a go at them, as well as take in freely available demonstrations, information and advice. Surrey Hills-based company, All Biked Up, will be setting up its portable track and bikes for those wanting a taster of mountain biking. The Spider climbing tower will be there for adventurers up to the challenge of navigating through a maze of elasticated ‘spider’s webs’ at different heights, before sliding down a vertical drop slide. And runners taking part in Reigate and Redhill YMCA's YRUN 14 will be raising funds for the charity while testing their stamina.
Announcing the event, Adam De Save, borough council portfolio holder for leisure, said: "Whether you want to try a new sport or activity for the first time or are looking for a club to join, our Festival of Sport is the place to be. “We can guarantee fun and physical activity and help you lead a healthy, active life.”
He added the YMCA run event also shows the importance of sport and keeping fit and healthy, to the area.
He said: “Get your entries in soon for the great event that not only has races for all ages and abilities, but also raises funds for the YMCA's work to build brighter futures across East Surrey."
