One of the biggest celebrations for St George’s Day is set to take place in Gravesend tomorrow (April 23).

More than 1,000 young people from 21 schools in Gravesham will be taking part in community celebrations.

They will be celebrating St. George’s Day which will be organised by the Kent Equality Cohesion Council (KECC) in what may be one of the biggest celebrations taking place in England.

The aim of the event is to celebrate the patron saint of England and bring together the diverse communities of Gravesham.

A parade through the town will feature the schools and the Premier Brass Band, West Hills Morris Dance Troupe and Four by Four Dhol Drummers.

The parade starts at Town Centric in St. Georges Square at 10.30am and will finish at the community square, where there will be music from the local brass band from 10am.

Director of KECC Gurvinder Sandher said: "I am very passionate about St George’s Day as I believe it is an important way of bringing communities together and celebrating what it means to be English today in a culturally diverse society."
