This Is Local London: Biggin Hill Festival of Flight searching for classic car owners Biggin Hill Festival of Flight searching for classic car owners

Organisers of Biggin Hill Airport’s Festival of Flight are searching for volunteers who own pre-1966 classic cars or motorcycles.

The event, due to take place on Saturday June 14, is looking for owners and their lovingly restored and maintained machinery.

A special classic vehicle display arena has been allocated close to the park where The Red Arrows will be lined up.

Back in the mid 1960s, each member of the Red Arrows team was provided with a red MGB for the season, courtesy of the British Motor Corporation whose publicity manager at the time was the well known broadcaster and commentator, Raymond Baxter.

Event Organiser Colin Hitchins said: “One part of our celebration for the Red Arrows 50th display season is to link the high profile motor cars and motorcycles of the early to mid-1960s with half a century of precision display performances by this world-famous team.

“This year, Land Rover are the official sponsors of their Ground Support Team.”

Participating volunteers will be expected to be on site at the airport for marshalling by 11am on the day and to remain in the arena until 7.30pm.

A parade is planned during the afternoon.

Volunteers are requested to provide full details of their classic machine with a picture, together with their name and address, telephone contact and e-mail to the organiser’s office: fran@synergyeventsuk.com

Mailing address is Colin Hitchins, Biggin Hill Airport, Main Road. Biggin Hill, TN16 3BH. The invitation is open until May 23.
