A volunteer helping to transform the sporting lives of youngsters living on an estate has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.
Naseem Saleemi of Aldriche Way in Highams Park is among six people to be shortlisted for the 2014 Housing Heroes lifetime achievement award.
The Awards, celebrating the country's 'unsung heroes' is organised by Inside Housing Magazine and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).
As vice-chair of the Tenants, Residents and Leaseholders Association (TRLA) on the Highams Park estate, Mr Saleemi has helped to secure funding for gym places, a winter indoor sports programme, and provide youngsters with football, badminton and dance classes at a nearby sports centre.
Due to his love affair with cricket, he launched the London Cricket School in Waltham Forest in 2005 in which the under 13s team has since gone on to win the Lords Taverner's tournament and the national cup.
Ahead of the final awards ceremony on June 23, the Ascham Homes resident has been praised by the chief executive of the housing management body.
Madeleine Forster said: "Naseem is a fantastic member of the community who has helped to achieve so much for Aldriche Way and his local area.
"The work that he has carried out to be nominated for this award was exceptional."
