A scouting leader has been chosen to jet off to Japan for a world scout jamboree.

Meera Chauhan, a Beaver Scout leader at the 16th Hendon Scouts, was chosen from 100,000 adult scouting volunteers in the country to attend the gathering.

The Cardiff University student will join more than 30,000 other scouts and volunteers from across the world in the three-week event in Kirarahama in the Yamaguchi prefecture of Japan in July 2015.

Before her trip, she will support 36 14 to 18-year-olds from London who will attend the jamboree and help them prepare for the adventure on the other side of the world.

Meera, 19, said: "I volunteered at Kent International Jamboree in 2013 and it was hard work but it was satisfying to see how my contribution helped others have a good time. I also got to make lots of UK and international friends.

"Only Scouting can provide these kinds of international opportunities to meet such a diverse range of people."

The Scout Association of Japan will welcome other Scouts from around the world to the jamboree as a way of sharing each other’s cultures and faiths, along with taking part in adventurous activities and tackling world issues.
