Erith's 'Trumpton Trio' in Monte Carlo or Bust challenge for sick Maia, 15.
Three Erith fire fighters will drive a clapped out banger from South London to Monte Carlo to raise funds for a sick teenager.
Mark Edwards, Lee Burnett and Pete Cochrane, all members of Erith Fire Station Blue Watch, will retrace the route made famous in the film Monte Carlo or Bust to raise cash for 15-year-old Maia Harvey who suffers from life-limiting disease, leukodystrophy.
Maia's father, fire fighter and Orpington resident, Simon Harvey suggested organisers donate half of the money raised to Demelza Hospice Care for Children where Maia receives respite care.
Starting on June 5 the Trumpton Trio will journey across three countries in four days in a renovated Ford Mondeo named 'Balina.'
The make-shift fire engine, which cost just £200, was unveiled on April 11 at an open day at Erith Fire Station.
Mark Edwards, aged 43, from Gravesend said: "We thought the Monte Carlo Rally would be something we'd like to do and at the time Simon was moving stations to make things easier with Maia.
"We are hoping that companies will donate and people will sponsor us. We are looking forward to the challenge and hoping the car stays in one piece, but more importantly we want to raise some money for Maia and Demelza too."
