Morrisons has announced it will take over the site of a historic pub in Gravesend and will create 20 new jobs.
The supermarket company has confirmed the new store to replace the old Prince of Wales pub in East Milton Road, a site which is currently derelict.
The brand will help develop 10 family homes on the site to accompany the store opening, due to be early 2015.
A planning application for the site was approved - with conditions - at a Gravesham Council meeting on Wednesday (April 9).
Morrisons development executive Steve O’Connell said: “We are delighted to confirm a new Morrisons M local store for East Milton Road, Gravesend.
"M local’s focus on providing great value fresh foods to the communities we serve and this store will create around 20 new jobs.
"We are working closely with Peak Developers to deliver 10 new family homes and our M local store by early 2015.”
More housing will also be build to accompany the supermarket on the site, which is next to the Grade II-listed St Peter and St Paul’s Parish Church.
English Heritage had raised concerns about the plan but not raised a formal objection.
A spokesman told News Shopper: "Although we raised concerns about how the new supermarket might affect St Peter and St Paul's Church, which is next to the planned development and Grade II-listed, we did not wish to make a formal objection.
"The council had the final decision and we are confident it can ensure the design of the development minimises harm to the church."
