'Smart' M25 to reopen between Enfield and A1M South Mimms
Updated 9:49am Monday 14th April 2014 in News
Roadworks on the M25 near Enfield are set to be completed as it becomes England’s first “smart” motorway.
On Monday, the section of highway between Junction 25 (Enfield/A10) and Junction 23 (South Mimms/A1M) will fully reopen, with the hard shoulder converted for use as a permanent lane. New fixed and electronic signs have been installed to help manage traffic.
The temporary 50mph limit between the two junctions will remain in place over the weekend until it reopens.
However, the Freight Transport Association (FTA) fears motorists will not fully understand how the changes will affect their driving.
Malcolm Bingham, FTA’s head of road network management policy, said: “The changes that have been made are quite significant, so drivers must become familiar with the types of new signs and signals they will see and what they should do in the event of a breakdown.”
