Comic book artist Karen Rubins will help Barnet libraries in a month-long celebration of reading in the capital.

Libraries around the borough will be hosting storytelling sessions and other activities for younger readers as part of Cityread, which will include events, workshops and film screenings across and London.

Among Barnet events will be a comic book workshop with award-winning artist and manga specialist Karen Rubins, a former artist in residence at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

She will lead a workshop themed around Michael Morpurgo's First World War children's book Private Peaceful at North Finchley Library on Thursday April 17 at 2.30pm.

Author and military historian Peter Hart will talk about life in the trenches at East Finchley library tomorrow at 2pm.
