Zac Goldsmith, MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston, has scotched the rumour that he will stand down for fellow Conservative Boris Johnson before the next General Election.

The Evening Standard reported today that he would "step aside if pal Boris asked him nicely" although it noted his "skinny majority [4,091] is not safe enough for a Premier-in-waiting".

Asked today, Mr Goldsmith said simply: "Nonsense."

Asked about taking a run at Mayor of London he said: "I want to be a great MP for Richmond and North Kingston."

The rumour started in 2009 when it was suggested Boris Johnson may not stand for London Mayor a second time with half an eye on a seat in parliament, ready for a run for PM.
