The number of police officers in Enfield remains unclear following two sets of recent figures that police numbers have dropped in the past four years.

Numbers from the Greater London Authority suggest there has been a drop in police numbers since May 2010 by four per cent.

According to figures on GLA website, in May 2010, the number of police officers in the borough was 590. But in January 2014, the number had dropped to 568.

They also suggest that the number of police officers in December 2012 is 523.

However, the Metropolitan Police suggests the number of officers in Enfield in December 2012 was 489.

A police spokeswoman added: “In December 2012, there were 489 police officers working in Enfield for Enfield Borough. By March 2014, that number had risen to 585 - a net gain of 96 officers."

Joanne McCartney, London Assembly member for Enfield and Haringey said; “We have lost over 3,000 police officers in London. In Enfield we have lost 22 police officers and 103 PCSOs.

“The Mayor has already admitted that there may be flaws in his new community policing plan, the HMIC has reported that the Met now has the third lowest visibility of officers in the country. The Mayor needs to act on his promise and get officers into our neighbourhoods.”
