Eltham six-screen cinema is on the way
A six-screen cinema complex is on the way to Eltham after a planning board approved outline proposals.
The 900-seat complex will take the place of Poundland on the high street - previously bought by Greenwich Council for the development.
Under the plans, the basement and first floor will each house three cinema screens, while there will be two restaurants on the ground floor.
Tory ward councillors backed the scheme but raised concerns over the accessibility of parking in the area. Despite this, board chairman Councillor Ray walker would not commit to an early review of the situation.
Conservative leader Councillor Spencer Drury said he was particularly concerned that a long-term masterplan for Eltham could eventually wipe out three of its four car parks, leaving cinema goers parking on residents' roads.
The decision sets in place the cinema complex's overall size and structure, but more detailed plans on its appearance and overall design will be submitted at a later date.
