An east Twickenham father, who worked as a lawyer, died after his car crashed into a telegraph pole in Surrey last month.

Surrey Police confirmed his identity as 39-year-old Alex Gibson on Thursday, April 3.

A father-of-two, Mr Gibson was killed when, on March 22 at 1am, his black Audi A6 crashed into the pole in Old Lane in Ockham, near Cobham.

Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and the South East Coast Ambulance Service attended but the King’s College graduate was declared dead at the scene. He was the only person in the car.

Mr Gibson lived in Alexandra Road in east Twickenham with his wife Kirsty, who is also a 39-year-old lawyer.

He had worked for international law firm K&L Gates at One New Change in the City for the past 16 years, having been a partner for the past six.

He is also survived by two young sons, one of whom is a member of Richmond Rugby Club, where Mr Gibson volunteered, coaching the U6s.

Richmond FC secretary and treasurer Jen Gadsby Peet said: “He was an enthusiastic, well-liked member of the club and had helped coach the U6 age group since September last year.

“He was one of our valued volunteers and was very popular.

“He was here every Sunday and was an integral part of the under-sixes group and setting it up.

“Alex will be much missed and our sympathies are with the family.”

When contacted by the Richmond & Twickenham Times on Tuesday, April 8, his family were too distressed to speak.

K&L Gates declined to comment before we went to press.

The funeral was held on Wednesday, April 9.

Woking Coroner’s Court said an inquest into the death was opened on April 1 and had been adjourned until a date yet to be confirmed.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.

A spokesman said: “Police would like to hear from anyone that witnessed the events leading up to the incident or the collision.
