Former Surbiton High girl Nicky Morgan has joined the cabinet today after Maria Miller resigned over "media distraction" over her overclaimed expenses.
Miss Morgan, 41, will become financial secretary to the Treasury but will join the cabinet with responsibility for women’s affairs.
Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted the news at lunchtime.
The Conservative MP for Loughborough attended Surbiton High School before going on to study law at St Hugh's College Oxford.
Other alumni of the school include Olympic skiier Chemmy Alcott and The Saturdays popstar Mollie King.
The former solicitor was elected at the 2010 General Election.
She will join Kingston and Surbiton Liberal Democrat MP Ed Davey at the cabinet table.
