Joseph Hood Primary School does fancy dress for World Book day
A primary school celebrated World Book day with a dress-up day, literacy-based activities and assemblies.
Pupils and staff from nursery to year six at Joseph Hood Primary School in Raynes Park came to school dressed as characters from books studied in class on Thursday, March 20.
Prizes were awarded for best costumes in each year, with children winning a variety of books and literature-themed items.
Wendy Shepard, English subject leader, said: "It's so encouraging to see our children engaged in their learning.
"This is one of the many ways that we bring texts alive to our pupils.
"We aim to foster a life-long love of story in every member of our school community."
Pupils at the school have been selected by Merton Libraries to participate in the Premium Library Card scheme, which aims to get every child aged five to 11 to join their local library.
They will soon be able to borrow books from school too, after a library was created in the school's new building .
